MYCENAE: THE PREHISTORIC CEMETERY
PC 1939 Grave III: Late Helladic I
![]() |
Prehistoric Cemetery 1939 Grave III This rock cut shaft 0.85m deep contained pottery vessels, amber and amethyst beads and gold ornaments including a fragment of sheet gold and five beehive-shaped gold beads. It had been robbed and the age and sex of the original occupant is uncertain but the presence of two feeding bottles strongly indicates a child burial. The presence of gold objects suggests a person of relatively high status. A large slab of stone found in the grave may once have served as a marker. |
